How It All Started

I founded Takumi Tatami because I was building his my Asian inspired Tiny-house, for this build I wanted custom tatami flooring made to precise measurements and crafted with authentic materials. After extensive searching, I discovered there were no suppliers in the United States offering the level of customization and quality I was looking for. Rather than compromise, I decided to create a solution. What began as a search for tatami mats for one home became this company Takumi Tatami. We are dedicated to provide custom tatami flooring to customers across the U.S. with the same attention to detail I would want for my own space.

Our tatami mats are made using high‑quality rush grass and a rice straw core, materials valued for their authenticity, comfort, breathability, and longevity. Each mat is manufactured with great precision and craftsmanship. Our high quality control makes sure that every tatami mat is perfect. 

You can personalize your tatami mats by selecting your preferred heri (tatami border) color, dimensions and Layout. 

Quality Control You Can Trust

Once your order is submitted, manufacturing begins promptly. Before shipment, we carefully verify all measurements and conduct a detailed inspection of the finished mats. Photos of your tatami mats are sent to you for final approval before they are packed.

We take great care in preparing your order for transport. All tatami mats are securely packaged with extra protection along the edges and corners to minimize the risk of damage during shipping.

From Our Workshop to Your Home

Manufacturing typically takes about one week, followed by shipping time of about two months, depending on destination. Throughout the process, we keep you informed so you know exactly what to expect and when your tatami mats will arrive.
